In this article you will learn how to use Microsoft Teams on the Realwear HMT-1 What is needed:
- The RealWear HMT-1
- A Wi-Fi connection
Note: In order to download Microsoft Teams on the Realwear you must be registered with Foresight.
Get started with Microsoft Teams and RealWear HMT-1
Foresight
To use Microsoft Teams in conjunction with the RealWear HMT-1, the headset must be registered with Foresight – the cloud system to manage RealWear devices. With Foresight, organizations can install applications, such as Microsoft Teams. Once the RealWear HMT-1 is registered with Foresight, Microsoft Teams can be installed through Foresight. This can be complicated, so we’re happy to help you set up both Foresight and Microsoft Teams so that your AR headset is ready to use right away.
Logging in
To use Microsoft Teams on RealWear HMT-1, you must first log in. This can be done by means of a keyboard that can be controlled by speech. The letters must then be spoken out loud letter by letter. It is faster to download the RealWear Companion app on your smartphone. After downloading the application, you can enter the username and password on the smartphone, after which a QR code will be generated that can be scanned by the RealWear. It is useful to think in advance about which account you want to use for the RealWear, a personal account of an employee or a generic account.
Starting a video call,
During a video call user is in contact with a remote person who is sitting at a computer. For the sake of convenience, we call the latter person the ‘expert’. This expert only needs to enter the user’s email address in Microsoft Teams and click “call” to initiate a video call. You can also start a video call the other way around. The user with the RealWear calls the expert at the computer. Here’s how: the user says the words “my calls” aloud, and then a list of contacts that have been called in the past appears on their screen. A person can be selected from that list to call. The user with the AR headset can also make a call by saying an e-mail address with the letters separately from each other. However, this takes more time.
Share a screen with Microsoft Teams on the RealWear HMT-1
Once a video call has started, the expert at the computer can easily select a file to share with the user of the AR headset. The expert does this by sharing screen on the PC clicking in Microsoft Teams and then selecting the file he or she wants to share. When the file is selected, it will appear on the screen of the RealWear HMT-1.
Group call with the RealWear HMT-1
It is also possible to add more people to a call, namely by adding the RealWear HMT-1 to an existing group call on Microsoft Teams on the computer. All persons from that group conversation are then connected to the headset and can see his image.
Advantages and disadvantages
An advantage is that many companies already use Microsoft Teams. The integration of the system in combination with the RealWear HMT-1 then generally proceeds very smoothly. In addition, the use of Microsoft Teams is included, as mentioned, if an Office license is in possession. In addition, the possibility of group conversations is also a big advantage of Microsoft Teams. The disadvantage of using Microsoft Teams in combination with the RealWear HMT-1 is the need for a good internet connection. Without good internet, Microsoft Teams will not work. If a user has poor internet, we recommend the software system Argus instead of Microsoft Teams. With Argus the connection is never broken, regardless of whether or not there is a working internet connection available. Another drawback of Microsoft Teams is the limited access to AR functionalities. For example, taking photos is not possible when using Microsoft Teams. We recommend companies that already work with Microsoft Teams to also use this platform in combination with the RealWear HMT-1. It is best to thoroughly test in advance whether the headset and Microsoft Teams fit the assignment for which a company thinks it needs that combination. If you would like to test the RealWear HMT-1, you can request a free 3-day trial from us. This way you can judge the headset yourself and test the device with Microsoft Teams.
