The Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S are powerful standalone VR headsets designed to deliver immersive virtual reality experiences without the need for a PC or external tracking sensors. Whether setting up a headset for the first time or upgrading from an older model, the process is quick and straightforward.
In this guide, you will learn how to unbox, charge, set up, and start using your Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S.
What’s in the Box?
When opening the packaging, the following items are included:
- Meta Quest headset (Quest 3 or Quest 3S)
- Two Touch Plus controllers
- Charging cable and power adapter
- Glasses spacer (if needed)
- Quick start guide
Charging the Headset & Controllers
Before first use, fully charge the headset:
- Connect the included USB-C cable to the charging port on the side of the headset.
- The LED indicator near the port will glow red while charging and turn green when fully charged.
- Charging typically takes between 2 and 2.5 hours.
The Touch Plus controllers each use one AA battery. Remove the side cover to replace the battery when needed.
Headset & Controller Buttons
Headset Controls:
- Power button: Located on the right side, press and hold to turn the device on or off.
- Volume buttons: Found underneath the headset.
- Quest 3S: Immersive mode button for lens distance adjustment.
- Quest 3: IPD wheel for adjusting interpupillary distance.
Controller Controls:
- Joystick: Used for navigation and teleportation in certain apps.
- A/B or X/Y buttons: General action buttons.
- Grip button: Located on the side, for holding or interacting with virtual objects.
- Trigger: Positioned at the back, used for selection or confirming actions.
- Menu/Meta button: Short press to exit an application; long press to reset the viewing position.
Setup Options
You can set up the Meta Quest 3 or 3S in two main ways:
Option 1: Using the Meta Quest Mobile App
- Download the Meta Quest app on your smartphone.
- Log in using your Meta account.
- Follow the pairing instructions displayed in the app.
Option 2: Enrolling on the Meta Horizon Managed Services (MHMS) Platform
Designed for organizations managing multiple headsets:
- Turn on the headset.
- Connect it to a Wi-Fi network.
- Select “Connect to organization” on the headset.
- Enter the displayed code in MHMS to complete enrollment.
